The role in a nutshell:

Share your time in one of our volunteer roles, either directly supporting or contributing to Age UK Barnsley’s work with and for the people aged 50+ who need us most.

What will you be doing?

The roles that we currently have available are: 

 

Day Care Assistant
Could you support older people in our friendly day centre by enabling socialisation and encouraging independence?

 

Retail Assistant
Meet new people, learn new skills and use past experience to help us raise vital funds and have fun in one of our shops!

 

Telephone & Face-to-Face Befriender
Could you have a regular friendly visit or telephone conversation with an older person?
It would make a real difference to them!
 

We have other opportunities and programmes that might benefit from your skills and experience, so please do reach out to discuss with us how you would like to be involved in our Volunteering Team. 

How would you be supported in this role?

After a successful application, you would be provided with an induction and ongoing training opportunities. 

 

Our volunteers are assigned a point of contact (Social Outreach & Engagement Officer) for your relevant service and area, who will provide ongoing support and supervision. 

 

Throughout your service, we will continue to offer you training and new opportunities for you to develop new skills and social networks. 

Why do we need volunteers in this role?

Age UK Barnsley involves volunteers in the delivery of our services and operations to help us reach as many people aged 50+ in need of our services as possible. The time and talents volunteers offer play a vital role in the successful delivery of our charity’s mission.

This opportunity is representative of a variety of volunteer roles within our organisation. 

We will share the specific roles currently available after receiving your initial application.

 

DBS checks are required for Telephone & Face-to-Face Befriender and Day Services roles. 

Other roles may require a DBS before starting service, you will be informed during recruitment. 

We provide this free of charge. 
 
Applications from young people are accepted and are determined on a case-by-case basis.
