Age UK South Kent Coast - Volunteer Trustees

Ongoing

Virtual and On location

The role in a nutshell:

We're looking for 1 x voluntary Chair and 2 x trustees to provide strategic leadership, governance, and support for Age UK South Kent Coast.

What will you be doing?

You will take part in board meetings, reviewing key information and using your experience to help shape decisions and direction.

You will help steer the organisation forward, bringing a forward-thinking approach and supporting long-term planning. This includes offering constructive challenge, identifying opportunities for growth, and helping ensure the charity continues to adapt and meet the needs of older people across the South Kent Coast.

How would you be supported in this role?

You will receive a full induction to help you understand the charity, your responsibilities as a Trustee, and how the Board operates. Ongoing support will be provided by the Chair, fellow Trustees, and senior staff, with access to relevant information and guidance to help you contribute confidently.

You will also have opportunities to develop your knowledge through training and by connecting with the charity’s services, helping you stay informed and engaged in the organisation’s work and impact.

Why do we need volunteers in this role?

Volunteer Trustees bring valuable skills, experience, and independent perspectives that strengthen our decision-making and help us respond to the needs of the local community. Their support enables us to continue growing our impact and making a difference to the lives of older people.

Additional information:

We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive Board and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, particularly those whose experiences reflect the communities we serve. This is a rewarding opportunity to use your skills and insight to make a meaningful difference to the lives of older people in your community.

What skills, interests or experience might be helpful in this role?

We welcome individuals who bring a broad range of experience from the private, public or voluntary sector, and who are comfortable contributing at Board level. The ability to think creatively and strategically, alongside a willingness to offer constructive challenge, will be important in supporting effective decision-making.

Experience in areas such as leadership, service development, continuous improvement, finance or funding/fundraising would be particularly valuable, helping us adapt and strengthen our services for the future. You will also need to be able to commit the time required for the role, including bi-monthly meetings.
