London Marathon Cheerer - Age UK Cheer Point 1 - Tower Hill

Sunday 26 April 2026

Age UK Cheer Point 1 - Tower Hill

The role in a nutshell:

Cheering runners at designated Age UK cheer points at this year’s London Marathon taking place on Sunday 26 April in central London.

What will you be doing?

The role consists of:

Helping the team to ‘hold’ the space at the barriers for the Age UK cheer points

Helping to spot runners wearing the Age UK running vest

Encouraging runners as they go past, with an extra loud cheer for Age UK runners

Making friends and family of Age UK runners that join the cheer station feel welcome, and help them get to the front of the barriers in time for their runner to go past

How would you be supported in this role?

You will be provided with a written brief including maps, timings and a contact mobile number. The brief will include all the information you need about race day. You will also be invited to a Teams/Zoom briefing call to meet the team and allow you to ask any questions you’ve got.

On the day there will be an Age UK cheer point captain managing volunteers who will be able to brief you once you arrive, and answer any questions you may have. They will also provide you with an Age UK t-shirt (which you can keep) and cheering materials.

Why do we need volunteers in this role?

It’s very hard for charities to stand out on marathon day as there are so many supporters lining the route. In order to stand out, we need to create a block of people for the whole day to ensure we spot all of our fantastic runners as they pass.

The team have been training hard for over 6 months and have also been committed fundraisers, each raising £2000 for Age UK.

We owe it to our runners to be there for them on the day and to give them a huge cheer as they go past. It gives them an enormous boost and really helps them get to the finish line.

Due to the busyness of the day, we need volunteers to help us to ‘hold’ the space at the front of the barriers so that we maintain our cheer point and can also allow runners’ friends and family get to the front.

Additional information:

What skills, interests or experience might be helpful in this role?

Being at a cheer point on the day is lots of fun and such a great atmosphere. Although you’ll not need any specific skills, you’ll need to be comfortable with being on your feet for the whole shift and be okay with crowds since the day is really busy.
