The role in a nutshell:
To provide a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for older people with early to moderate stages of dementia and their carers. • To provide assistance with domestic tasks including serving refreshments,What will you be doing?
Main Duties:
- To provide a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for older people with early to moderate stages of dementia and their carers
- To meet together and enjoy activities and courses in each other’s company
- To provide assistance, support and encouragement to people living with dementia, that is appropriate to their needs
- To undertake group work or one to one support
- To adhere to relevant Age UK Sunderland policies and procedures, such as confidentiality, Safeguarding, Health and Safety, and Equal Opportunities
- To provide assistance with domestic tasks including serving refreshments, washing up and tidying the kitchen.
- To provide a friendly face and helping hand to service users
- If appropriate, to gently encourage the person living with dementia to participate in activities
- To assist other staff / volunteers in preparing the venue for the day and leaving it clean and orderly at the completion of the day
- To verbally report any concerns about users to Essence staff
- To attend an induction session for new volunteers
- To attend further training as required, e.g. safeguarding, food hygiene
- To participate in gatherings for the support and benefit of volunteers
How would you be supported in this role?
You will be supported in this role by the Essence Service Activity Facilitator

All travel expenses will be reimbursed
What skills, interests or experience might be helpful in this role?
Experience of Dementia is essential in this role
A keen interest in supporting older people with dementia and their carers
To be flexible and able to respond to the varying needs of service users
The ability to work as part of a team
Reliability and trustworthiness
An understanding of the need for confidentiality
