The role in a nutshell:

KEEPING IN TOUCH - Friendly Faces - This service requires volunteers to visit older, isolated people within their own homes. The main focus of the role is simply for volunteers to offer companionship.

What will you be doing?

Main Duties:

  • To make regular visits to isolated or lonely older members of the community
  • To raise awareness and promote the services of Age UK Sunderland
  • To adhere to the relevant Age UK Sunderland policies and procedures, such as Confidentiality, Safeguarding, Health and Safety, and Equal Opportunities.

 

Your role will require you to:

  • Visit service users who live at home for a weekly chat
  • Inform project co-ordinator of any problems
  • To participate in gatherings for the support and benefit of volunteers

 

Specific Responsibilities

  • Tasks vary according to individual need but may include:
    • making a cup of tea and having a chat

    • escorting them to local shops

    • providing company to alleviate isolation

  • Record visit on client file and pass to Co-ordinator at end of each month

How would you be supported in this role?

You will be supported by our KIT coordinator before and after each visit with regular check ins and offered regular opportunities for training. 

 

Expenses will be reimbursed for travelling to and from Client’s homes upon production of valid receipts/mileage report which must be completed monthly.

                                                              

Why do we need volunteers in this role?

This service requires volunteers to visit older, isolated people within their own homes. The main focus of the role is simply for volunteers to offer companionship to those who would otherwise be alone. Volunteers will be expected to make regular visits, usually weekly, on an agreed day and time.

Additional information:

Hours of delivery - Usually 2 -4 hours per week, on a day to be agreed with the Project Co-ordinator and client. No weekends or evenings.

 

We offer regular social events for volunteers to meet each other, as well as seasonal events.
