Connect and Support Service Volunteer

Ongoing

Virtual

This role is currently closed to new applicants but sign up to be notified when it re-opens for applications.

The role in a nutshell:

Help older people feel more confident and connected. From the comfort of your home, you’ll research options and link them with local and national services that can make a real difference.

What will you be doing?

In this role, no two days are the same. You might:

- Research social activities and follow up with someone to help them feel less lonely

- Arrange transport for someone with mobility challenges to get to a day centre or lunch club

- Find trusted tradespeople, like gardeners, to help someone stay independent at home

- Make calls on behalf of someone who lacks the confidence to do so themselves

- Connect people with their local Age UK or similar organisations

- Each call is different, but all make a real difference to older people’s lives.

How would you be supported in this role?

You’ll get full training and an induction, so you feel confident in your role. We’ll provide regular check-ins, team support sessions, and opportunities to connect with other volunteers for peer support.

Why do we need volunteers in this role?

Volunteers help us reach more older people who need support. By giving your time and sharing your skills, you’ll make a real difference to people’s lives.

Additional information:

This role takes place Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5pm. We’ll work with you to find times that suit you within these hours.

As an Age UK volunteer, you'll get discounts on Age Co. products and services, plus offers from other brands through our discounts portal. Just ask your volunteer manager to find out what other perks are available.

What skills, interests or experience might be helpful in this role?

Older people are at the heart of everything we do at Age UK. You don’t need prior experience, we’ll provide full training and ongoing support. It’s helpful if you understand the challenges people may face in later life and will need some awareness of local and national services older people can be referred to.

Strong communication skills and basic confidence using computers and online tools are important for this role.
