This role operates across Hillingdon & Harrow

The role in a nutshell:

Our Community Support team provides short-term support to people aged 65+ who have recently been discharged from hospital, in their own homes or on the telephone.

What will you be doing?

As a volunteer, you might help with:

 

  • Grocery shopping
  • Light household tasks (washing up, changing bedding, tidying)
  • Making a cup of tea or coffee and offering companionship
  • Accompanying someone to a medical appointment
  • Collecting prescriptions
  • Offering simple IT support to help access health services
  • Joining someone on a visit to a social or health group
  • Providing information about other helpful services
  • Reading letters or assisting with paperwork
  • Posting letters or parcels
  • Helping someone engage with services they’ve been referred to
  • Making weekly wellbeing calls

 

Every small action makes a big difference. You can indicate which tasks you would be happy to carry out. You can also indicate which Boroughs you would be happy to travel to.

Why do we need volunteers in this role?

Age UK Hillingdon, Harrow & Brent involves volunteers in the delivery of our services and operations to help us reach as many older people in need of our services as possible. The time and talents volunteers offer play a vital role in the successful delivery of our charity’s mission.

Additional information:

We’re grateful for any time you can give.
Ideally, we’re looking for volunteers who can offer 1–2 hours a week for a minimum of 12 months.
We also ask volunteers to attend two team meetings per year and an annual review meeting with their manager.

 

Required Checks

To keep our service safe and supportive:

  • Two references are needed—one should be from an employer, tutor, or volunteer manager who has known you for at least two years.
  • An Enhanced DBS check is required (we cover the cost).
